Proctor Engineering Group
HVAC/Duct System History

Proctor Engineering Group has been doing engineering and program development work on heat pumps and on HVAC/air distribution systems for 16 years. In the course of our work with HVAC systems, we have uncovered a consistent series of problems:
- A large majority of systems (95%) had duct leakage which exceeds 150 CFM50.
- Air flow measured across the indoor coil was deficient by more than 50 CFM/Ton in 65% of the systems.
- Refrigerant charge was incorrect in most of the systems. From 19 to 27% of the systems are undercharged and from 27 to 36% of the systems are overcharged.
We combine engineering knowledge with practical field experience to ensure that project results have the highest quality possible. We regularly upgrade our knowledge base and improve our models to reflect the most recent information. This allows us to provide our clients with cost-effective solutions which address and resolve their problems.
Proctor Engineering Group's HVAC/Duct System History
- 1982 - In a study of low income weatherization customers, 17% of the
distribution systems had disconnected ducts.
From that time to the present, over 200,000 systems have been
treated with a program that includes duct sealing.
-
1988 - As part of an evaluation of a low income program, Solar Energy
Research Institute tested the change in system efficiency on a
small group of homes. Extremely large efficiency improvements
were measured in the two homes with the largest amounts of duct
repair (44% and 55% savings).
- 1989 - With the assistance of the Energy Conservatory we built a duct
depressurization device to measure the duct leakage in small
commercial buildings.
